POST DETAILS

This post will provide the opportunity to join a team that adopts a collegiate approach to the strategic and day-to-day management of the school.

St Luke’s is a popular Church of England school.  Under the inspirational leadership and management of the Headteacher Krysia Butwilowska, St Luke’s now has a rapidly expanding roll. St Luke’s recognises the increased significance of ICT in both school and the work place and is developing learning opportunities accordingly.  There currently exists a ratio of 1 computer to 4 pupils.  St Luke’s is a school that is at the forefront of curriculum development and is recognised for its radical and innovative approaches to the raising of standards.

The Headship Team consists of the Headteacher, one Deputy Headteacher, and a Bursar.

St Luke’s is a challenging school yet very rewarding.  The ethos is Christian and the recent appointment of a School Chaplain has strengthened the school’s commitment to this focus.

On 4 July 2001, HRH The Duke of York officially opened a newly built Art, Design and Technology Centre as well as a Community Sports Centre which includes fitness room, gymnasium, sports hall and indoor swimming pool.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who wants to be involved in curriculum innovation and raising standards of attainment.  St Luke’s is a happy school where governors, staff and pupils really do work together.  There is a sense of direction but much work remains to be done.  The school has the capacity for managing its own improvement.  All staff are required to evaluate their practice and are regularly challenged to demonstrate how they support pupil progress and how they make a difference to pupils’ learning.

The person appointed will probably possess the following characteristics:

• Suitably qualified in Science
• Ability to lead the Department forward
• An exemplar of good practice
• Awareness of the training and development needs of teaching staff
• Excellent grasp of Science as it relates to the National Curriculum
• Sound awareness of assessment, recording and reporting
• Awareness of the philosophical basis of the teaching of Science
• Awareness of the importance of pastoral care
• Desire to involve pupils in activities beyond the classroom
• Awareness of the importance of support for pupils with Special Educational Needs
• Expertise and knowledge of ICT within Science
• Good health and reliability in terms of attendance and punctuality
